Jeff Petry is heading to the Stanely Cup Finals.
He had a strong season for the Habs being second in team scoring with 12 goals and 42 points in 55 games through the regular season in what was one of the best seasons of his career for the now-33-year-old defenceman.
His time on ice has noticeably taken a jump in the post-season to the tune of nearly two minutes. He’s undoubtedly being asked to do more, and his offence hasn’t quite been there the way it was in the regular season.
In 15 games through the playoffs, Petry has scored just five assists. It hasn’t been pretty, but he’s gotten the job done for the Habs.
Drafted by the Oilers in the second round of the 2006 NHL draft, Petry appeared in 295 games for the Oilers over five seasons scoring 17 goals and 74 points. In March 2015, the Oilers traded Petry to the Habs for a second-round pick, later traded to the New York Rangers for Cam Talbot then the Washington Capitals, who took Jonas Siegenthaler, and a fourth-round pick, which the Oilers used to select Caleb Jones.
Montreal were the surefire underdogs against a deeper, better Vegas Golden Knights team, but the Habs were resilient. Now, they wait to see who they face. Will it be the Lightning? Or the Islanders? Let me know what you think down below in the comments.
