On Tuesday evening, the Oilers took on the Predators in Nashville, defeating the mustard-coloured team 6-1. This brings their record to 1-2-0 on the season.

Oilersnation’s Player of the Game: Leon Draisaitl

The German wasn’t the only Oiler with a four-point night, but Draisaitl etched his name in the history books. He scored the game’s first goal on the power play, becoming the highest-scoring Oiler on the man advantage. Draisaitl surpassed Glenn Anderson and Ryan Smyth for the record with the 127th power play tally of his career.

Draisaitl’s numbers against the Predators have been insane. He now has 24 goals in 24 games all told for his career against Nashville and he has 18 goals and 12 assists over his last 10 games against the Preds. It’s a level of dominance by one player against another team unseen in the NHL recently.

Things worth mentioning:

Mattias Ekholm made his return to Nashville for the first time since being traded from the Preds to the Oilers back in February. The Preds gave a nice video tribute to Ekholm, who ranks fifth in team history with 719 games played.

Jack Campbell was fantastic. He only allowed one goal on 42 shots for a .976 save percentage. This was a much-needed game for Campbell, who allowed four goals on just 16 shots in Edmonton’s opening game.

Zach Hyman was the other four-point getter, scoring his first goal of the season and also adding three assists. Last season, he scored 36 goals and 83 points in 79 games, by far a career-best season.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has had a solid start to his season, now sitting at two goals and six points in three games after a three-point night on Tuesday evening.

Even Strength scoring was much better Tuesday, as the Oilers scored four goals in five-on-five play, with Draisaitl’s two goals as the only ones coming with the man advantage.
