For the fourth time in team history, the Edmonton Oilers are on a nine-game winning streak.

They did so during the 1984-85 playoffs en route to a Stanley Cup, they had a season-changing streak during the 2000-01 season, and they finished off last year&#8217;s regular season with nine wins. On Saturday, this year&#8217;s Oilers will look to set a new team record with ten wins in a row.
But before that, let&#8217;s talk about this 3-2 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings, which was one of the most exciting games of the season thus far.

After getting his goal waived off against Chicago on Tuesday, Hyman was back with a vengeance.
The 31-year-old scored his 26th goal of the season to put the Oilers up 2-1 at that point as he fired it through a couple of bodies into the goal. It looked as if most of the Detroit players had lost where the puck was, including Alex Lyon, leading to a pretty easy goal.
Hyman also had an assist on Connor McDavid’s highlight reel goal, giving him 26 goals and 42 points on the season. His 26 goals are tied for fourth in the league and he&#8217;s on pace to break 50 goals for the first time in his career. This man should be in the All-Star game!

Connor McDavid did Connor McDavid things, incredibly staying on-side and dangling out the Red Wings team to beat Lyon for the first time in the game. The usually steady Jake Walman was calling for an off-side, but McDavid continued to play and ended up scoring his 16th goal of the season. Furthermore, McDavid now has a nine-game point streak and a point in 20 of his last 21 games.

Darnell Nurse scored the game-winning goal in overtime to match a franchise record ninth win in a row. The goal was his sixth of the season, and the 28-year-old left-shot defenceman now has six goals and 16 points in 38 games, quite far off his career-year 12 goals and 43 points in 2022-23.
Picking up assists were Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Mattias Ekholm on Hyman’s goal. Nugent-Hopkins has 11 goals and 38 points on the season, while Ekholm has four goals and 17 points on the year.
The Oilers will look to set a new franchise record for win streaks as they face off against the Montreal Canadiens at 5:00 PM MT on Saturday. Montreal is no pushover, as they are 17-17-6 on the season, but they did lose to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday evening.
As for the standings, Edmonton moved into the first wild card position with 45 points and three games in hand on both Nashville and Seattle, both of whom have 45 points as well. Los Angeles lost their seventh straight game, but once again made it to overtime, giving them an extra point and their 48th point. Still, Edmonton only trails by three points, and catching them seems like a real possibility.
