On Tuesday evening, the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs and defeated Canada’s least-favourite team by the score of 4-2. The victory extended the Oilers&#8217; franchise-record winning streak to 11 games.
Auston Matthews gave the Leafs an early lead and Morgan Rielly put them up 2-0 in the second period. Leon Draisaitl was able to put Edmonton on the board before the end of the second and then the Oilers pulled ahead in the third with three unanswered goals, highlighted by a game-winning snipe by Ryan McLeod.

Stuart Skinner is back.
The 25-year-old netminder faced 28 shots on Tuesday and saved 26 of them for a .929 save percentage, his eighth consecutive game with a save percentage above .900. However, Skinner made numerous big saves, including this massive save to keep it a one-goal game.

In these post-games, we’ve looked at Skinner’s save percentage since the Oilers had their turnaround on November 11. After his first eight games, Skinner had an .854 save percentage, but that has now risen to .903 with a 2.61 goals-against average. Just great stuff.

Evan Bouchard picked up an assist on a goal, while also scoring his 11th of the season on a strange empty net goal to seal the Leafs’ fate. He now has 11 goals and 42 points.
Ryan McLeod picked up the game-winning goal on an excellent screen by Connor McDavid for his eighth goal of the season and also picked up an assist. McLeod now has 18 points and is a crucial player on the third line.
Derek Ryan scored to tie the game, his fourth of the season and ninth point of the campaign. This was also the right-shot centre’s 200th career point in the NHL, not bad for a former University of Alberta player who went undrafted.
Mattias Ekholm also hit a milestone, as he registered an assist on a goal for his 300th-career NHL point. This season, the 33-year-old has four goals and 18 points and is a vital part of Edmonton’s defence.
Connor McDavid increased his point streak to 11 games with an assist on the game-winning goal. The best player of our generation has a point in 23 of Edmonton’s last 24 games and has 12 goals and 45 points in that span.
Leon Draisaitl picked up his 21st goal of the season to give him 46 points on the year. After a quiet stretch, the German has a goal in seven of his last nine games and has been playing significantly better as of late.

Edmonton returns to action on Thursday at 7:00 PM MT to host the Seattle Kraken. Unlike the Oilers, the Kraken lost their win streak with a loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday, ending it at nine games.
With the win, Edmonton’s record improves to 24-15-1 and they move into the first wild card position. Not just that, they are just a single point behind the Los Angeles Kings and only six back of the Vegas Golden Knights, who have played four more games than the Oilers have.
