Inside the Nation: Power Play problems, the second line, and who’s the odd man out

Oct 4, 2018, 16:59 EDTUpdated: Oct 5, 2018, 10:47 EDT
Here we are on a sunny Thursday afternoon in the capital region, and, as per tradition, Dustin Nielson jumped on Facebook Live over at our FB page to talk about all things Edmonton Oilers. On today’s episode, Dusty looks at the power play, potential roster moves that are yet to come, and a whole lot more…
To start, Dusty looked at the Oilers’ power play and how they’re going to make it work with five left-handed players on the power play. Should the Oilers look to rejig? Should they give it more time? How about splitting up McDavid, Nuge, and Draisaitl? Next up, Nielson looked at whether or not the Oilers could be looking to make a roster move early in the season. We’ve heard a lot of Justin Faulk rumours lately, so maybe he’s a fit? Nielson gives his take on whether or not making a move this early makes sense.
Turning to the questions that were coming in on Twitter and Facebook, Nielson started things off by looking at some possible line combinations that might work on the second line provided that Lucic, Drai, and Yamamoto can’t get things going early. Who would be a better fit on the left side: Khaira? Rieder? Looking further down the lineup, it also seems fair to wonder where Alex Chiasson fits in and the same can be asked about Drake Caggiula. We know that McLellan likes to mix things up with his line combinations so it seems fair to ask these questions early.
