First place in the North Division standings could be in reach for the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night when they wrap up a two-game home series with the Winnipeg Jets as -135 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton opened the series with Thursday’s narrow 2-1 win to both extend the team’s current win streak to two games and pull even with the first-place Toronto Maple Leafs going into Saturday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.

In addition to continuing their drive up the divisional standings, Thursday’s victory also extended the Oilers’ recent solid play on home ice, where they have now won five straight. Stingy defense and great goaltending have been key to Edmonton’s recent home success. The team has allowed just eight total goals during its current 5-0-0 run at Rogers Place.
However, Oilers shooters have scored six or more goals in three of their past six overall outings. That has produced mixed results in totals betting, with the OVER/UNDER going 4-4-0 in the team’s past eight outings. And the trend towards mixed results extends to recent meetings between these two teams.
The Oilers have now tallied narrow low-scoring wins in each of their past two home dates with Winnipeg. However, these two teams have also exploded for over 10 total goals in two of their five meetings to date this season, with the OVER prevailing in four of their past six clashes.
Connor McDavid has been an offensive force in recent dates with the Jets. Edmonton’s captain scored twice in Thursday’s victory, and has now racked up four goals and 10 assists during a seven-game points streak against Winnipeg. Tyson Barrie also maintained his recent torrid pace on Thursday, contributing a pair of helpers. The Oilers rearguard has tallied six assists in the past two games, and four assists in his past three outings versus Winnipeg.
The Jets look to avoid losing ground to the division leaders when they face off on Saturday as +115 underdogs at online sports betting sites. Winnipeg has struggled since opening March on a torrid 6-1-0 pace. The team has failed to record consecutive victories during a subsequent 3-3-1 run, thanks to a sporadic offense that has scored two or fewer goals in three of seven contests.
Netminder Connor Hellebuyck is expected to return to the Winnipeg crease after enjoying Thursday’s game from the bench. Hellebuyck has struggled to slam the door in recent outings, allowing at least three goals in 11 of his past 12 outings, and has not earned consecutive winning decisions since late February. However, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner has still managed to pick up the win in nine of his past 12 dates with Edmonton.
