It was nothing short of a fiery game two between the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.

It was a game that saw the Oilers jump out to a 4-0 lead after the first period, adding another in the second, en route to a dominant 5-1 victory.

As the Oilers ran roughshod on the ice scoring at will, the Golden Knights wanted to try and find their own way into the game. It ended up with Oilers defenceman Brett Kulak fighting Golden Knights forward Brett Howden.

But as that fight happened at centre ice, a brouhaha kicked off in the corner of Vegas’ end. A few Golden Knights latched onto Nick Bjugstad after the latter took a late shot, and it would up with Keegan Kolesar grabbing Evander Kane from behind as the two eventually fell to the ice.

It ended up with Kane laying multiple body shots on Kolesar as the linesmen were tangled up with the scrap at centre ice.

After the game, Oilers forward Evander Kane was asked about the scrap.

“You don’t see a lot of guys getting jumped from behind than head locked,” Kane said. “When you wanna fuck around, sometimes you have to find out.”

Kane was issued a four-minute minor for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct on the play, and later barbed in the box with William Carrier early in the third. Late in the game, the Golden Knights continued to get after the Oilers forward. Nic Hague tried to fight him with just over five minutes to go, and the barbing continued with under a minute to go as Klim Kostin fought Zach Whitecloud.

While I would imagine cooler heads prevail heading into a pivotal game three for both teams, it is playoff hockey and it wouldn’t take much for things to escalate again.
