Leon Draisaitl’s 41st assist of the season got the young centreman to a career milestone as he now has 200 points in his young NHL career.
After being drafted 3rd overall in 2014, Leon Draisaitl has seen his share of ups and downs. His rookie season left something to be desired and, after 37 games and only seven points, he was returned to junior to help the Kelowna Rockets on their Memorial Cup run where he was named tournament MVP. In his second season with the Oilers, Draisaitl exploded for 51 points playing alongside Taylor Hall and hasn’t ever looked back from there.
With the size and skill that every team covets, Leon Draisaitl has already established himself as a legitimate top-six forward with the potential to play on the wing or at centre. That size, skill and versatility has allowed him to move up and down the lineup as is needed and gives the coaching staff plenty of options as to where to use him. Whether at centre or on the wing, the Edmonton Oilers’ success will depend heavily on Leon Draisaitl’s continued progression and improvement, a task that he certainly seems up to so far.
At the time of posting, Draisaitl is currently ranked sixth among German-born players in terms of point production but we can’t imagine it will be long before he sits atop of that list. Congrats on 200 points, Leon. Here’s to many more.
