On Wednesday evening, one of the most underrated players in his career picked up his 800th assist.
In a game against the Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings captain Anže Kopitar had a three-point night, picking up a goal and two assists. On a power play in the third period, Kopitar assisted on Kevin Fiala’s sixth goal of the season, giving him his 800th assist in the league
Kopitar becomes the 35th player in league history to reach the 800-assist mark, and only the fourth active player to do so behind Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane, and Evgeni Malkin. As it stands, the Slovenian centre has 423 goals and 1,223 points in 1,384 games.
This season, Kopitar has four goals and 12 points in 11 games, leading the team in points. In turn, the Kings have the second-most points in the Pacific Division thanks to their 6-3-2 record. Only the Vegas Golden Knights, whom the Kings defeated on Wednesday, have more points with 15.

Frederik Andersen is out week-to-week

The Carolina Hurricanes will be without netminder Frederik Anderson, as he’s week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
Last season, the Danish netminder missed most of the season, playing only 16 games with a .932 save percentage and a 1.84 goals-against average, but missing most of the season due to blood clot issues. Thankfully, this injury isn’t related.
Although he only played 16 regular season games in 2023-24, he became the Hurricanes’ starter during their postseason run, posting an .895 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average.
It was a good start for the 35-year-old, as Andersen had a .941 save percentage and a 1.48 goals-against average in four games played. The Hurricanes will lean heavily on Pyotr Kochetkov in Andersen’s absence, with the Russian netminder posting an .894 save percentage and a 2.77 goals-against average in four games this season.

Artturi Lehkonen is expected back in the lineup next week

The Colorado Avalanche are getting a much-needed reinforcement on Nov.5, as forward Artturi Lehkonen is expected to return next Tuesday.
The 29-year-old Finnish-born winger hasn’t played this season, but potted 16 goals and 34 points in 45 games in 2023-24, along with six goals and 11 points in 11 postseason games. In 2022-23, Lehkonen had 21 goals and 51 points in 64 games. He was traded to the Avalanche before the 2022 trade deadline and was a big part in helping them win the Stanley Cup that year, scoring eight goals and 14 points in 20 postseason games.
As for the Avalanche, they have a bunch of players currently out of the lineup. Gabriel Landeskog has been out since winning the Stanley Cup in 2022, Valeri Nichushkin is out with a suspension, and Jonathan Drouin, Ross Colton, and Miles Wood are all currently out.
Lehkonen returning to the lineup won’t solve all of the Avalanche’s injury issues, but it is a start.
