It was a news-filled Tuesday.
There have been some recent re-signings, and an old classic jersey has been returned. However, there are some sad news pieces in this article, so beware.
Let’s dig into the latest NHL Notebook.

Dakota Joshua diagnosed with testicular cancer

Thankfully, it appears that it was caught early and he underwent surgery to get rid of the tumour. While he won’t make the opening of the Canucks’ training camp, it appears to be more so because of recovering from surgery.
With that being said, it’s important for all men to regularly check themselves, as it can happen to anyone.

Nottingham Panthers to retire #47

Last October, Adam Johnson tragically passed away after a skate blade incident in an Elite Ice Hockey League game. His team, the Nottingham Panthers, announced on Tuesday that they’re retiring his number 47 on Dec. 14, 2024.
Johnson was undrafted in the National Hockey League draft, but played 13 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2018-19 and 2019-20. After the end of the 2021-22 season, he headed overseas to play in Europe, first in Germany in 2022-23, before heading to the British Isles in 2023-24.
His passing was felt across the league, and several leagues have added mandatory neck guards, including the Western Hockey League, which made the change less than a week later. Moreover, the International Ice Hockey Federation made neckguards mandatory in all competitions.
It’s a tragic situation, but Johnson’s memory will never be forgotten.

Stars sign Esa Lindell to contract extension

Lindell was drafted in the third round of the 2012 draft by the Stars. Last season, he scored five goals and 26 points in 82 games, along with three goals and five points in 19 postseason games. Hiis career-high season came in 2018-19 when he scored 11 goals and 32 points in 82 games, and he has 49 goals and 191 points in 604 career games.
Not too shabby for a third-rounder.

Buffalo re-signs Peyton Krebs

The Vegas Golden Knights drafted Krebs 17th-overall in the 2019 draft, and traded him in a package to the Buffalo Sabres for Jack Eichel. Krebs became a mainstay on the Sabres roster in the 2021-22 season, scoring seven goals and 22 points in 48 points. The next season, he scored nine goals and 26 points in 74 games.
Last season, the 23-year-old centre scored four goals and 17 points in 80 games.

Washington brings back the screaming eagle jersey

Over the past few seasons, there have been multiple National Hockey League teams bringing back retro jerseys – either in a special capacity or for their full-time uniforms. A good example of this is the Anaheim Ducks bringing back their Mighty Ducks of Anaheim logo for the 2024-25 season.
Admittedly, right after the announcement, I went directly to eBay to see how much these beautiful retro jerseys cost (spoiler alert: a lot), solely because they are absolutely beautiful.
