Oilers announce jersey numbers for Barrie, Turris, Quine, and Forsberg

This afternoon, the Oilers announced via their social media channels which numbers all of the new guys will be wearing in their first season in Edmonton.
One of the more interesting (read: hilarious) things that has happened around here lately has got to be the argument many of us Oilers fans were having about Tyson Barrie possibly wearing #94 as he did last year in Toronto. People on both sides of the idea were passionately making their case about why he should or should not be able to wear Ryan Smyth’s number, but as it turns out, the tweets and rage were all for not as Barrie will instead wear #22, becoming the 12th player in franchise history to do so. That said, I do hope he asked JF Jacques if that was okay.
As for the other new guys, Kyle Turris will be the 26th players to wear #8 for the franchise with the last being Ty Rattie a couple of seasons back. Alan Quine will be the 25th players to wear #26, which will surely be an upgrade over the time that number spent with Brandon Manning even if he doesn’t play all that much. And finally, Anton Forsberg will dawn Cam Talbot’s old #33 and will be the 20th player to wear that number for the Oilers.
Personally, if you were ever looking to swap out the name bars on those Griffin Reinhart or Tobias Rieder jerseys then now could be the moment you’ve been waiting for.
