The Edmonton Oilers have assigned F Colby Cave to the Bakersfield Condors.
In his second year with the organization, Cave struggled out the gate early this season after seeing some ice-time due to a Riley Sheahan injury.
With Sheahan back and looking like a good bottom-six option, the Oilers waived Cave on Saturday. Clearing today, they were able to assign him to the Condors.
I was fairly high on Cave coming into the season and recently wrote about how he had a quietly good season last year.
He struggled in limited showings this season and got caved in analytically in a small sample size. He’s going to be joining a Condors club that has gotten off to a good start.
He’ll fit in there well playing with many other young guns and a coach in Jay Woodcroft who has transformed the career paths of many of those Condors.
There’s a good chance that he could be one of the first players to be called up should the need arise for a short-term fill in due to injury.
