The Edmonton Oilers will be searching for an end to a four-game losing streak on the road when they continue a three-game road trip in Columbus on Wednesday as +125 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton’s recent offensive slump resurfaced once again on Tuesday as the team fell 3-1 in Detroit, marking the sixth time in eight games that they have mustered two or fewer goals going into Wednesday night’s game at Nationwide Arena.
Oilers at Blue Jackets | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Oilers’ current power outage has been a particular concern during their current road slide, with Edmonton shooters potting just two total goals over the team’s past four dates away from Rogers Place. Edmonton’s lack of scoring touch has also spoiled some steady performances between the pipes.
Netminders Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith have allowed just seven total goals while tallying a combined .933 save percentage during the Oilers’ road losing streak. That has contributed to a steady 5-0 run for the UNDER on the totals at online betting sites in Edmonton’s past five road games.
The Oilers have also tallied four straight road wins over Metropolitan Division opponents, outscoring opponents by a 17-6 margin. That run began with a 4-0 shutout victory in Columbus on March 2, and a trio of wins during the second week of the current campaign.
The Blue Jackets return home as -155 favourites after dropping a 7-4 decision in Philadelphia on Saturday that snapped a brief two-game win streak. Columbus has opened the season amid tempered expectations after seeing a free agent exodus over the summer, and has responded with inconsistent results.
The team has alternated between wins and losses in six home dates so far this season, with each of their past five home games being settled by just a single goal. With a 5-4-2 record so far on the season, the Blue Jackets currently sit outside the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference, and sport underdog +1800 odds to win the Metropolitan Division.
Columbus has also struggled in recent dates with the Oilers, going 1-3-0 in the past four meetings between the two clubs including a pair of losses at Nationwide Arena in which the Blue Jackets were outscored by a wide 11-2 margin.
