Another mark in the illustrious career of one of the best players to ever play the game.
When he took the ice against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night, Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid appeared in the 700th game of his NHL career.
The team’s captain celebrated the occasion by assisting Leon Draisaitl on his league-leading 45th goal of the season just past the halfway mark of the first period.

While 700 games might not sound like a massive milestone, it is in the eyes of the Oilers organization. McDavid became just the 11th player in franchise history to reach the mark. Not even the legend himself, Wayne Gretzky, played 700 games before he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings.
The 27-year-old now sits one game behind four-time Stanley Cup champion Craig MacTavish for 10th all-time in games played in franchise history,
In the 45-year history of the Oilers NHL franchise, only one player has played over 1,000 games with the team. That man was former general manager Kevin Lowe, who appeared in 1,037 contests with the blue and orange. McDavid’s teammates, Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, have played more games than him. Nugent-Hopkins has appeared in 941 games, and Draisaitl played in his 780th contest on Tuesday.
McDavid has notched a couple of other milestones this season. On Saturday night, the former first-overall pick registered the 700th assist of his career, becoming the third-fastest player in NHL history to accomplish the feat. Only Gretzky and fellow Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux hit the mark faster.
40 games earlier, McDavid posted the 1,000th point of his NHL career, becoming the fourth-fastest player to hit that milestone.
The Richmond Hill, Ontario native has accomplished just about everything there is to do in the NHL, outside of winning the Cup. In his first nine seasons, he’s won three Hart Trophies, been voted for four Ted Lindsay Awards, won the Art Ross five times, and won the Rocket Richard Trophy in 2022-23. That year, McDavid posted a career-high 153 points.
In his first 700 games, McDavid has scored 357 goals and 701 assists for 1,058 points.
