Leon Draisaitl once again made NHL history when scored to double the Oilers’ lead in last night’s win over the Kings.

As Edmonton was completing a line change, Darnell Nurse sprung a fast forward to Draisaitl who was along the boards. He opted to quickly chip it off the backhand to Evander Kane who was bursting with speed down the lane. Kane got up to behind the Kings net when sent a back door pass back to Draisaitl who proceeded to bury the puck from the top of the circle.

As a result of this play, he became the fastest player in league history to record 20 career road playoff goals, doing so in 26 games played. This was three games faster than the previous record, set by Kevin Stevens and Bernie Nicholls.

This marks the latest achievement set by the German forward this season, who had already reached 700 career games and hit the 100 point mark for the fifth time in his career. This wasn’t even the first record set by Draisaitl in this series, who became the fourth fastest player to reach 50 playoff assists last night and also became the fourth fastest to 80 career playoff points, which was achieved back in Game 2.

With how much the Oilers have dominated the Kings in the postseason over these last few years, it’s not hard to suggest that Draisaitl could perhaps break more playoff records before this series is over. Heck, he probably broke another record last night and we didn’t even know about it.

Regardless of how many more times he puts his stamp on the history books, Draisaitl continues to prove he is built for the playoffs and has no trouble elevating his game when the stakes are high. The fact he already has 20 away playoff goals shows he can be entrusted to put the puck in the net in an effort to silence the crowd.
