Injuries are emerging as a growing concern for the Edmonton Oilers as they prepare to close out a two-game series with the surging Calgary Flames on Wednesday as -105 road underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton could be without defenseman Tyson Barrie and forward Jujhar Khaira, who both remain listed as questionable ahead of Wednesday’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Barrie was forced to leave Monday night’s contest with a lower-body injury while Khaira’s status also remains uncertain after he came out on the wrong end of a fight with Calgary’s Brett Ritchie, which reportedly forced him into concussion protocol. The injuries come at a bad time for the club, which has also missed the presence of injured defenseman Slater Koekkoek and forward Kyle Turris.
Losers in each of their past two outings, the Oilers have struggled to generate offense of late. The team has tallied just four total goals during its current two-game swoon, and has failed to score more than three times in eight of its past 10 contests.
It will be a particularly harsh blow to the Oilers if Barrie is out for a prolonged period. In addition to playing increasingly big minutes, Barrie has been a steady offensive contributor. The 29-year-old ranks fourth on the team in scoring, and the team has posted wins in nine of the past 10 games in which he has recorded at least a point. Barrie has also been a key contributor on the power play, with 11 of his 24 points to date coming with the man advantage.
That adds to the pressure on superstars Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, who are already accounting for a third of the team’s total goal production. The duo are currently riding point streaks of seven and six games, respectively, but were limited to just two total points in Monday’s loss, and a mere five total points in the team’s three clashes in Calgary this season.
Now riding a three-game win streak with Darryl Sutter behind the bench, the Flames aim to complete the two-game sweep on Wednesday as -115 home favorites at online betting sites. Sutter’s return as bench boss has been marked by steady defensive play by the Flames. The team has surrendered just five total goals during its current surge, which represents a vast improvement after allowing four goals per game over its previous six contests.
However, the Flames have struggled to produce consistent results against Edmonton. The team has posted wins in just two of five meetings with the Oilers this season, and has failed to record wins in consecutive home dates with Edmonton in the same season since March 2018.
