It’s Friday afternoon and that means a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio is wrapped up, edited into a masterpiece, and here to get you set for the weekend. This week, we looked at which Oilers defencemen will have the most pressure on them to take a step forward, temporary hubs for the 2021 season, and spoke to Canadian cyclist Kelsey Mitchell about her unbelievable journey to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
To kick off this week’s podcast, we got started with a conversation about how many 20-goal scorers the Edmonton Oilers could have on their roster the 2021 season using a pro-rated season to fuel our guesses. From there, we changed gears a little bit and looked at the defensive group, specifically at which defencemen will need to take the biggest steps forward in order to cover up for the absence of Oscar Klefbom. Could it be Caleb Jones who will have to play more minutes than ever before? Will it be Darnell Nurse who will unquestionably be asked to do more heavy lifting in Klefbom’s absence? As we quickly approach the end of 2020, we still don’t know what the upcoming NHL season will look like but the good news is that Gary Bettman spoke to reporters earlier in the week and discussed some of the league’s early ideas, which gave us an opening to argue about the best and worst ways that hockey can proceed with a new campaign. Do bubbles make sense? What about playing baseball-style series within your own division? Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s podcast with an incredible interview with Kelsey Mitchell, a Canadian cyclist that will be representing our country at the upcoming summer Olympics in Tokyo. To put it mildly, her story is incredible and one that you won’t be able to believe until you hear her tell it herself.
