The Oilers are back out on the road after a frustrating homestand, which means we had plenty to talk about on the brand new Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today’s show, we’re talking about the Oilers’ loss to Vancouver, previewed tonight’s Battle of Alberta, looked back at our Christmases, and a whole lot more.
To kick off this week’s Tuesday podcast, we got started with a conversation about the Oilers’ spot in the standings, and how their record is identical to where we were at in 2021-22. So how nervous are we about what’s happening right now? As we know, the Oilers went on a roll in the back half of the season and we’re going to need that exact same output down the stretch. To get to 100 points, the Oilers will have to go 31-16-0, and when you break the math down like that, both Tyler and I are starting to feel a little bit nervous about it. To make matters worse, the Oilers are passing up games that should be “easy” wins but don’t end up with any points at all. As a result, Edmonton now finds themselves outside of the playoffs with only 47 games left to play. Looking ahead at the Battle of Alberta, maybe this is the kind of game that the Oilers need against a division rival. Maybe the Flames can finally bring out the best in them, giving the Oilers the kind of energy they haven’t played with in weeks now. From there, Tyler and I talked about John Scott’s take on Dropping the Gloves where he said there are five players in the NHL that he would take on his team ahead of Connor McDavid. Really? What? Lastly, we wrapped up the podcast with a look at the World Juniors Championship and how Canada got a dose of humble pie with their loss against Czechia.
