In his first game action in Finland, Jesse Puljujarvi scored.

It was a beautiful goal, only minutes into the game when he fired home a one-timer.

It was a great way for him to kick off his season in Finland, having signed last week with Oulun Karpat.

He finished the game with just over 15 minutes of ice-time and added an assist in the game as well.

And hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come.

It’s clear Puljujarvi won’t be coming back to Edmonton anytime soon, if ever, as he continues to seek a trade from the team. But nonetheless, he’s still Oilers property and him producing in Finland is a very, very good thing.

It’s good for him, personally, as it should help to boost his confidence that I’m sure was depleted after the last few seasons.

But more importantly, it’s good for the Edmonton Oilers who are looking to maximize the value they can get back from the former 4th-overall pick.

He currently has an out clause with the Finnish club that would allow him to return to the NHL prior to Dec. 1. Otherwise, he will be remaining overseas until next season.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things pan out over the coming months. Earlier this week, Elliotte Friedman linked the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning as two teams who the Oilers have had a lot of discussions with.

The Oilers are reportedly looking for a player and a pick, he said.

Puljujarvi is slated to have a big year in Finland as his skill level will be much higher than those around him. Hopefully, it will drive up his value back in North America.
