The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to reclaim second place in the North Division standings with a win on Wednesday as they continue a three-game home series with the Ottawa Senators as -235 favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton opened the series on Monday with a narrow 3-2 victory, but remains one point back of the second-place Winnipeg Jets going into Wednesday’s matchup at Rogers Place.
Senators vs Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Oilers have rebounded well from last week’s demoralizing sweep by the division-leading Toronto Maple Leafs. The team has posted a pair of victories since, including last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Calgary, and has closed the gap on the suddenly struggling Maple Leafs to just six points. However, Edmonton has continued to fade on the odds to win the North Division since last week, and now lags behind both Toronto and the Jets as a +900 wager.
Injuries have also started to pile up for the Oilers. Kyle Turris remains in quarantine after finding himself on the COVID list on Tuesday, and Josh Archibald is questionable for Wednesday after missing the past two contests with an upper-body injury. That adds to the long list of players lost to the team indefinitely, including rearguard Slater Koekkoek and winger Zach Kassian.
However, the lineup at the clinic has not distracted the Oilers from their recent steady defensive play. After spotting Ottawa an early goal, the team effectively took control of Monday’s matchup, outshooting the Senators by a 37-28 margin on the night, and scoring three straight goals to seal the win.
More importantly, Edmonton has now picked up the win in all five meetings to date with the Senators this season. That includes three victories on home ice, ending a dismal 1-9-2 run against Ottawa on home ice that dated back to 2004.
The Senators aim to bounce back from Monday’s loss as they hit the ice on Wednesday as +195 underdogs at online betting sites. Ottawa has picked up just one win through the first four games on its current six-game road trip. The team’s current struggles have brought a halt to a promising 6-3-0 run in their previous nine contests, and has dumped their already woeful road record to 4-12-0 on the season.
The Ottawa offense has struggled to find the back of the net, averaging just 2.50 goals per game during their current 1-3-0 run after averaging 4.40 goals per game in their previous five outings. But with the Senators surrendering 4.50 goals per game over their past seven dates away from Canadian Tire Centre they have produced mixed results in totals betting, with the OVER going 4-4-1 in their past nine away contests.
