The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to sweep Ottawa for the third time this season when they close out a three-game home series with the Senators on Friday as -240 betting favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton extended its season-long dominance over Ottawa with a lopsided 7-1 victory on Wednesday, and has now claimed victory in all six meetings between the two teams going into Friday night’s game at Rogers Place.
Senators vs Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Wednesday night’s win proved to be a tonic for the Oilers offense, which had struggled to score with consistency over the past two weeks. Edmonton’s offensive outburst marked a welcome turnaround after the team managed to score an average of just two goals per game over its previous seven outings.
The Oilers’ continued domination of the last-place Senators has also helped the team get past their recent poor showing in a three-game series with the Toronto Maple Leafs in which they were limited to just one total goal. Now unbeaten in three straight contests, Edmonton looks to have regained the momentum it briefly lost, and looks to the weekend deadlocked with Winnipeg for second place in the North Division, just six points back of the Leafs.
Edmonton has also benefited from the improved play of its special teams during this series. The team tallied three power play goals in their first two meetings with the Senators this week, ending a four-game drought. The Oilers have also been perfect on the penalty kill so far in the series, ending a worrisome four-game stretch during which they gave up five goals while down a man.
Overall, the Oilers have limited Ottawa to just eight total goals over their past five meetings. That has resulted in a steady 4-1 run for the UNDER at sports betting sites, with the total set at 6.5 in each of those contests. The challenge for Edmonton now is to do something the team has not done since October 2019, which is to win four games in a row on home ice.
While the Oilers have rediscovered their form, the Senators close out a disappointing six-game road trip as +200 underdogs. Ottawa has fallen to defeat in four of the first five dates on its current junket, allowing 4.6 goals per game during that stretch.
Overall, the team has lost six of seven on the road, and has surrendered seven goals on three occasions during that stretch. Ottawa’s porous defense has made the team a risky wager in puckline betting when they play on the road, with 11 of the team’s 13 road losses to date coming by multi-goal margins.
