No, it’s not the Pacific division we were hoping for but as a result of the Condors, 6-3 win over the LA Kings affiliate, Ontario Reign the Bakersfield Condors have clinched the AHL’s Pacific division title.
The Condors have been in the playoffs since March 30th but the division came down to the second last night of the regular season. On the strength of tying the second-longest winning streak in the AHL’s history with 17 straight wins, the Condors roll into the playoffs atop their division.
Led this season in scoring by the revelation of a healthy Tyler Benson (15-51-66) and the combo of two guys who spent some time up with the big club, Cooper Marody (19-45-64) and Joseph Gambardella (29-19-48). On defense, they have been backed by the steady play of both Ethan Bear and Caleb Jones as well as William Lagesson in his first pro season with the Oilers organization. In net, after suffering from vertigo, Al Montoya has given way to the combination of Shane Starrett, Dylan Wells and six games from Stuart Skinner.
The Condors will play the final game of the regular season against the eliminated from playoff contention Calgary Flames affiliate, Stockton the Colorado Eagles in the first round of the playoffs as a result and that series will start this Friday.
