Wildfires have devastated Jasper National Park, and the damage has displaced countless people and left the township of Jasper in ruins. And since the townsite and park mean so much to so many of us, we had to figure out a way to help out even a little bit, and I’m hoping for your help in spreading the word.
If you’re from Alberta or have even been to the province, chances are that Jasper was one of your stops and is now one of your favourite places on Earth. A cool little mountain town surrounded by the most beautiful scenery you can imagine, Jasper has everything you could hope for in a vacation spot. It’s relaxing, historic, and beautiful, and it almost gave the impression that you were stepping back to a simpler time in the best possible way. From the wildlife to the historic buildings to the uniqueness of the area, Jasper felt like a second home for anyone who visited. For me, Jasper is one of my favourite places on earth.
So, seeing the images and videos coming out of Jasper right now is heartbreaking in every possible way. I’m thinking about the people displaced by the fire who likely don’t know if they’ve lost everything or when they’ll be able to return home. I’m thinking of the emergency workers doing everything possible to save the townsite and surrounding areas. I’m thinking of everyone who has ever visited the area and made memories in what I can only describe as a magical place, a true gem in our province.
This is one of those moments when I wish I were smarter and capable of coming up with better words to describe what Jasper National Park means to so many of us, but I’ll leave that up to folks who are much more talented than I am. What I can do, however, is use this platform to try and help. That’s why we’ve reached out to some of our partners at Tourism Jasper and created a charity t-shirt to try and raise funds for those displaced by the wildfires.
To help us achieve our goal, we’ve teamed up with the Jasper Community Team Society for this “To Jasper, with Love” t-shirt. All proceeds will go to the Community Caring Fund and Disaster Relief Fund, which will provide outreach services to community members needing assistance and support. If you’re interested in helping but don’t want a shirt, we’ve also set up a link to make donations directly to the Jasper Community Team Society.
If you can’t purchase a shirt or are unable to, we ask that you still share the link to this story. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for those affected by the Jasper wildfires. Every click and share helps us reach that goal. These fires have affected so many people across our province and country, and all we can do is band together to help those in need. Thank you for taking the time to read and share this article. Be safe out there.
QUICK DETAILS
WHAT IS THE JASPER COMMUNITY TEAM SOCIETY?
Established in 2004, the Jasper Community Team Society (JCTS) is a registered, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting programs and events that encourage community connection and well-being. The JCTS works closely with the Municipality of Jasper’s Community Development Department.
THE VISION
Jasper is a vibrant, engaging, and resilient community where community members are both connected and supported.
THE MISSION
JCTS programs and initiatives build community connections while raising funds to improve the wellbeing of Jasper residents. Our funds can be accessed by Jasper community members who are experiencing barriers to their well-being and working with a Municipality of Jasper Community Outreach Services Worker. JCTS funds are used as a last resort, when other government or non-profit funding is unavailable to community members.
