This week in 2015, the Edmonton Oilers traded David Perron to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The deal marked the end of a two-year stint for Perron in Edmonton in which he had some of his most productive NHL years. Coming back to Edmonton in the deal was Rob Klinkhammer and a first-round pick later sent to the New York Islanders for Griffin Reinhart.

The Oilers brought Perron along with a third-round pick into town in a July 2013 trade that had seen them flip Magnus Paajarvi, a 2nd round pick in 2014 and a fourth in 2015.

And in Perron’s 116 games, he was a dynamic scoring threat piling 33 goals and 76 points on some really bad Oilers teams.

Klinkhammer, meanwhile, was not a very good depth piece for the Oilers while the first-round draft pick was completely mismanaged. Instead of not using the pick to take a future superstar in Mat Barzal, Edmonton traded it and the 33rd overall pick that year for Reinhart.
