This morning, it was announced that Bakersfield Condors have signed centreman, Tyler Vesel, to a tryout deal after completing his season with the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Vesel, a 6th round pick in 2014, was drafted by the Oilers as a 20-year-old after putting up a wonderful offensive season in the USHL (71 points in 49 games). This past season, Vesel took a slight step backwards in terms of points produced as he finished his senior season with 32 points in 36 games played. Even so, the organization has, rightfully so, decided that they would like a longer look at the young centreman.
Though some say he lacks size, Vesel is not one to shy away from the physical play as he is a fierce competitor and leader as was shown by his selection as team captain for his senior year. This past week, Vesel was named the winner of the NCHC’s Senior Scholar Athlete Award while also being named as a finalist for the NCHC’s Defensive Forward of the Year Award.
While Vesel is not yet signed to an NHL contract, he will get a taste of what life is like as a professional hockey player as he will make his Condors debut at some in the coming days or weeks.
