It was a milestone night in Nashville on Thursday as a pair of Oilers got on the scoresheet in memorable ways.
The first saw Viktor Arvidsson score his first goal as an Oiler, just 37 seconds into the game. It started in thanks to linemate Vasily Podkolzin, who laid a hit along the boards in the offensive zone, coming out with a puck and passing to Leon Draisaitl.
He quickly slipped the puck to Arvidsson, who had a wide-open net to bury his first.

Arvidsson had been around the action all through his first 10 games with the Oilers, generating 2.43 individual expected goals, the fifth most on the team. But much like some of his other teammates, Arvidsson had been snake-bitten, held out of the goal column.
With Connor McDavid expected to miss two-to-three weeks due to an ankle injury, Arvidsson and others emerging would be huge for the Oilers.
The new winger wasn’t the only notable player to get on the scoresheet, though, as Oilers centre Noah Philp got his first point in the NHL. It came halfway through that first period, getting a puck from behind the net, and feeding Drake Caggiula in front. He wasn’t able to score, but a big rebound popped right to Corey Perry, who made no mistake in burying it.

For Philp, it came in his first-ever NHL game, having been recalled days ago in the way of McDavid’s injury. He’s long had success as a point-producer dating back to his days with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, and has done so during his time with the Oilers AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors. In the 2022-23 season, he put up 19 goals and 37 points in 70 games.
