Anyone else wake up with a smile this morning?
I know I did and it was solely because of Connor McDavid’s unreal performance Monday night that launched the Oilers to a 6-3 game two victory.
His first goal came 19 seconds into the game where a bouncing pass came his way and a quick swing of the stick and the Oilers have an early lead.
Goal number two on the night was just…. incredible. At full speed, he corralled a loose puck on a partial breakaway and somehow managed to flip a backhander over Corey Crawford’s shoulder.
His third goal was a quick spinning shot that somehow found its way into the net.
Here are a few fun facts about McDavid’s night:
- The hat-trick, McDavid’s first in the playoffs, made him the fourth Oilers player in the last 20 years to have a postseason hat trick.
- The others were Leon Draisaitl (second round, game six 2017), Bill Guerin (game four of the 2000 CQF) and Doug Weight (game three of 2000 CQF).
- McDavid’s first goal was the second-fastest to start a game in Oilers history. Fernando Pisani scored 16 seconds into his legendary game five of the 2006 cup finals.
Not bad, Connor.
