  6. D Ben Betker, Everett Silvertips 9GP, 1-2-3
  7. G Keven Bouchard, Val d’Or Foreurs 3GP, 4.65 .877

McDavid is playing Nurse tonight, I’ll update the numbers as they roll in (he has a goal so far, just an incredible Forsberg on the poor SSM G). Draisaitl is having a good playoff for the Rockets and Roy is posting very good numbers for the Remparts.

  1. LD William Lagesson Dubque Fighting Saints 5GP, 1-1-2

The Flaming interview with Zack Fisch (PBP man with the Saints) is quite revealing. The young defender has been effective all year in his own end and is adding some offense of late.

@Lowetide; since they’ve started pushing advanced stats, are there any stats that can show the value of a Nurse better than PPG? I read the interview that Nurse was the best shutdown d-man in the OHL; there should be some way to quantify that…or no?

    • Lowetide

It’s a great question and the answer is yes, those metrics exist. However, we don’t have access to them as fans. The Greyhounds have been quoted at length though and Nurse plays big minutes against tough opponents and does have quality possession numbers. He’s a real gem.

  • The Soup Fascist

Have not had a chance to watch McDavid other than highlights and WJHC. Fun watching this game tonight. His 0 to 60 at this level is breathtaking – and not in the ugly baby on Seinfeld way. Nurse not a bad skater either.

Oilers not a fast team ….. Yet!!

  • B_Oliver

McDavid is absolutely amazing to watch. He’s got that extra gear on most players, but he also has a stage 2 clutch with one of those fancy suped up transmissions, never mind the nitro boost. McDavid know’s exactly when to accelerate and he dose it so smoothly you don’t know hes speeding up until he’s behind you. Also he is very strong on the puck. The way he handles his stick with 1 hand, using the other to defend against checkers, is unbelievable. He can stick handle threw 2-3 players and score like its just another day at the office. His wrist shot is underrated.

I don’t know if I’ve seen a combination of strength and skill and awareness like his ever. It’s almost impossible to compare him to a hall of fame player or some active player in the NHL right now. McDavid has his own style. He’s that shiny new car you catch a brief glimpse of on the highway, just a blur of colour. He’s on the highway to the top, and nobody’s slowing this kid down.

  • Lowetide

Boy McDavid is a great talent but watching him float around with out the puck tells me he is going to have to learn to play without the puck .He seems to spend his time floating around at centre iced waiting for the puck .

    Oiler Domination To Follow

Drai is having a great playoff and McDavid has 14 more goals than him… Wow just ridiculous.

If I’m Hall I’m Thinking rocket Richard and spending some extra time in the gym, especially with the prospect of playing with McDavid for the next decade.

Hall should be booking a ticket to Gary Roberts Camp to join McDavid in summer off season training..

    • Dwayne Roloson 35

I hope that our team catches on and they all start working with Gary Roberts. I’ve followed him for a while and he creates breakout seasons in my opinion.

  • McDaddy

Greg Chase is an interesting prospect. I interned for the Royals this season so I had an up and close look and saw Chase play every night. He’s one of the fastest skaters in the WHL and arguably the best player on the ice when he wanted to be. He is more then fast enough to transition to the AHL. Chases problem is that he takes the most idiotic penalties at the worst times. His attitude and edge are his strengths but also his weaknesses because he doesn’t know when/where to draw the line. If he can channel his decision making and attitude his ceiling could be a faster Brad Marchand. Not bad for a 7th round pick.

My remote got a workout tonight. Erie vs SS and OTT vs Mont. It was excellent seeing McDavid light it up. Boy he can skate. Nurse could be the number 1 we have been looking for? He sure has the tools.

  • B_Oliver

Watched the game between the SSM Greyhounds and the Erie Otters. Several observations:

McDavid had 2 goals tonight and could have had the trick but missed the net.

Despite his performance, Connor was not the best player on the ice – Darnell Nurse was. He logged about 40 minutes, was a total shut down force, jumped into the rush regularly. In short, he was stellar.

In watching one rush up the ice his skating style reminded me of Pronger. Given the other skills shown tonight I have no doubt that we have a gem in Nurse.

Incredible that we also have the opportunity to draft McDavid. Thank you Hockey Gods.

    • Oil4Brains

I watched the game too. All I can say is wow.

Nurse was a beast. Not sure the exact quote from the announcer but it was something like this – “Nurse is going need to put an ice pack on his jaw after the game cause is has been chirping the Erie bench all night”. Played hard in your face hockey and didn’t get of the ice all night.

McD was a offence machine. Every time he was on the ice he created a scoring opportunity. How he picked up the puck along the wall and scored below the goal line was unreal.

        • dougtheslug

For the sake of accuracy, he was -1, and that was an empty net goal minus, after a mind boggling play where he actually caught Connor McDavid and stopped him from scoring his hat-trick goal. But you obviously didn’t watch the game, if you are critiquing him from his plus-minus stats. Even a hung over Flames fan would have noticed Nurse and McDavid were head, shoulders and torso above everyone else on the ice. It wasn’t even close.

And anyway, why are you visiting ON to troll? Can’t you enjoy your own team’s success without bothering us?

We at ON have learned that cheering for a losing team doesn’t make us losers. And conversely, cheering for a winning team doesn’t make you a winner. As your trolling here clearly illustrates.

  • I am soaking every minute the Barons are in the Playoffs, after this it’s good-bye 🙁 I understand the move these Parent Clubs are making, but it still stings. (wanted to say something stronger, but my pretend mom is over my shoulder) GO BARONS!!

  • Oil Vice

A part of me really wants the Otters eliminated so McDavid can go to the IIHF tourney and spend some time with Crosby, Hall, Ebs. Just being on the ice/in the dressing room with those guys would go a long way to accelerating his already incredible development.

  • Oil Vice

How does a 6’5″ +210lb 20yr old move like that?!?
Nurse looked very impressive to me.
When is the last time the league saw a guy of that size move the way he does?…anyone?

    • Al Iafrate could was 6.3 240 and could skate like the wind and could shoot through steel.

Master of the skullet who could shoot bullets.

Not a comparable obviously. Just you wanted an example.

Big Buff can wheel too, obviously not as pretty as Nurse.

  • Usually I do not spend much time thinking about what MacT said……..most of this is just his ramblings however after watching the Errie Otters play the SSMG I have to agree with him on his statement that ” we have the 3 best CHL players coming to Edmonton”!

    Saw them good!

  • MacT's Neglected Helmet

Leon Draisaitl is having a nice playoff run on a powerhouse Kelowna Rockets team and Connor McDavid (who’s younger) has 2x the amount of points.

  • Barry McOckiner

Wow!!! How horrible has drafting been? Oilers draft picks =1 assist (marincin) with the Barons. I know it’s only 2 games in the playoffs, but when you look at the depth chart there’s not much there. Hopefully after this years draft PC revamps the scouting staff.
