Weekend Update: December 10th, 2017

The pipeline was flowing this week with some of the Oilers’ prospects having solid efforts and putting up big numbers. Tyler Benson continues his torrid pace in the Dub with nine points over the last two weeks. Iiro Pakarinen hit the ground running in Bakersfield after being assigned, with three goals and four points in his first four games. Kirill Maximov also had a four point week this week too. How did the rest do? Let’s take a look.

Whoever trashed you is a blind fan. For years I’ve heard about great pur prospects are, but name the last 2nd or 3rd rounder thst played 100 Oiler games…or better year namr the last Oiler pick the scored 20+ goals in a season thst wasnt a 1st rounder

Next year we can bring Benson and Yamamoto up as well as Legesson on defence, maybe try to bring Yakimov over for one more kick at the North American can. our forward prospects are thin, but defence is alright. Goalies are always such wild-cards that I dont really follow them as prospects.
Not saying our prospect pool is great. But we have wingers and defencemen and that is what is needed on the big club so I dont see any need for panic.

that’s the first thing I noticed… for a kid who got a long look and is considered a strong candidate to make the club sooner than later, he should be lighting it up

Some continued great arrows from many of the non-pro prospects.

Safin, Maksimov, Benson and Samorukov all playing well.

Joe Valeno was traded on the weekend, could effect Safin’s numbers – he’s got noone to play with on a very bad St. John team.

Can’t wait to see Rasanen, Safin, Samorukov and Yamamoto at the World Juniors in Buffalo.

the AHL team reminds me of the Flames AHL team after Sutter’s stint as GM, when there was almost 0 chance of any of them playing in the NHL… took Feaster and then Treliving years to get it back to respectability.

No doubt the lack of prospects in the AHL is a concern. What is happening in that 1st round picks over the last few years (excluding the most recent draft) are all in the NHL (starting with Nurse, then LD, McD, JP) which is a good thing. You can also count excellent free agent signings of Caggulia and Benning that have made the grade as NHLers and not just AHL prospects. This along with a small number of 2nd/3rd rounds picks due to trades (Talbot, Reinhart) and the unintended rule when PC an TM were signed has left a hole at the AHL level. Yamamoto’s inability to score is a concern.
