I watched the first two periods of the game against Iowa that the Condors lost and what makes it sad is that the Condors dominated that game – Andrew Hammond absolutely stole it. Iowa only managed 16 shots and the the Condors probably had 8 or so solid HDSCs.

What was great to see is they got right back on the horse last night and, once again, were by far the better team – this time taking it to the team they are fighting with for the division lead!

I’d like to post the following tweet from Brock Otten, who is somewhat of an authority on the OHL (and this is before Samorukov had another 3 assist game):

Dmitri Samorukov has 31 points in his last 29 games. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he might be the best OHL defender of the second half so far. Remarkable how he’s turned his season around after a slow start.

Samorukov has 14 points in his last 7 games and is PLUS 19 in those 7 games. He is spiking massively and he is a 2-way, solid and aggressive, defender first and foremost.

Seeing his second year success tells me the Oilers would be smart doubling down for at least one year extension on some of their prospects who haven’t lit it up yet. See if they come back stronger from their first season.

And that 3 ELC they signed Samorukov to as soon as they drafted him…smart!

It was also nice to get Ethan Bear back in the lineup last night – he had missed 8 of the last 10 with injury – a solid return with a couple of apples – one off a huge bomb from the point – Jones has a good shot but its not at Bear’s level – of course, skating is the main thing that may hold Bear back and Jones’ greatest asset.

Thank you for your comments on the prospects every week. I used to love the updates when Lowetide did them and had commentary. Now that it’s just a stats recap I skim it to see who put up big points and skip to the comments for your remarks.

      Much appreciated!

Think about our AHL team next year with the following players added:

    Maksimov | Safin | McLeod | Bouchard* | Samorukov

I’d even look to bring Yakimov back.

    Benson* – McLeod – Maksimov
    Safin – Yakimov – Yamamoto*
    Polei – Hebig – Russell
    Vesey – Vesel – Esposito

    Lowe – Bouchard
    Lagesson – Bear
    Samorukov – Day

    Starrett*
    Skinner
    Wells

*Bouchard, Benson, and Yamamoto could challenge for NHL spots but I’d give Yamo and Benson AT LEAST another half season and Bouchard the full season.

Jones and Marody will be on the big team next year, I believe.

*Starrett will challenge for the back-up behind Koski

Lovin Bakersfield right now and I’m excited to see what the roster looks like next year. The defense might have too many players though. We will have Persson likely coming next year, maybe Berglund and I don’t when Kemp or the college guys will get a contract. Not to mention the NHL castoffs like Manning and whoever they add to compete on training camp. Thing is I don’t really want them to trade any of the defense prospects until we see who emerges as the legit NHL players.

Also I would e willing to bring Yakimov in again. I know most people here have written him off already but I still like him. His stats looked bad because he was playing 4th line early in the year but after he was traded he started getting a few points. Might be a long shot but he could turn into a 3rd or 4th line center. At the very least he could help Bakersfield for a season.

Kemp is 20 I believe and a few years away from signing – he’ll be back in college for at least two more years I would think. John Marino may be close to signing – he may have one more year of college eligibility though – I’m not positive.

    • FISTO Siltanen

I see Bear in the NHL next year. Bouchard with Persson and Berglund in the AHL. Logan Day may need to find a new opportunity – I hope he turns out to have a good NHL career though.
