Over at the BioSteel camp that kicked off this week in Toronto, Leon Draisaitl was asked about the ongoing saga involving Jesse Puljujarvi and the Edmonton Oilers. As expected, Draisaitl didn’t say too much about his soon-to-be former teammate (probably), but he did offer a few quotes that were pretty revealing.
When asked about how he thinks this Jesse Puljujarvi situation will play out, Draisaitl stated the obvious.
“You obviously want guys to pan out and want guys to help you on your team, but again, it seems like he doesn’t want to be on our team as of right now. Maybe that changes. But again, we have people that are paid a lot of money to make those decisions.”
Seeing as this Puljusaga has stretched out over the entire summer, I do wonder what Leon actually thinks when he’s away from the cameras, but I understand that we’ll never know for sure. That said, it has to be a little bit frustrating to go to a summer camp knowing that you’ll have to answer questions that he really can’t do much about.
“I think we made some good changes — we added some good depth players. Hopefully, we can change a few things and get over the hump.”
Here’s hoping that the changes Ken Holland did make this summer will be enough to allow all of us to move past this summer’s drama and start focusing on a playoff push. Fingers crossed.
