Want to see every goal Connor McDavid scored in 2019/20? Of course you do.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m looking for any kind of hockey talk I can get right now, and that’s why I was excited to find this compilation that Sportsnet put together of all 34 of Connor McDavid’s goals from the 2019-20 NHL season. Is it worth the time? Yes, absolutely.

Can you believe it’s only been a week since the NHL suspended its season as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic? It almost feels like a lifetime ago that we were watching the Oilers/Jets game, knowing full well that it was going to be our last for the foreseeable future. As soon as the NBA pumped the brakes on their season, we knew that the NHL wouldn’t be far behind, but I don’t know if any of us could have ever expected the wheels to fall off on our daily lives quite like this. Everyone here already knows the story, so we don’t need to rehash it now. In the meantime, I’m just looking for any positivity I can find as we try to navigate this trying time in human history, and that’s why I was so pumped to find this compilation of all of Connor McDavid’s goals from this past season. To be honest, watching this video has easily been the best seven minutes of my day and I wanted to share in the hopes that you’d feel the same.

I know I’ve said this already but it bears repeating that this compilation video was the best seven minutes in my day, and I actually got to pretend that things were normal for a few minutes. I got to watch seven minutes of Connor McDavid doing his thing and regain a sense of gratitude that comes with remember that he’s the captain of the Edmonton Oilers. Whether we’re talking about the ridiculous goal he scored against Toronto — he undressed Morgan Rielly like he was some kind of PeeWee defender — or the pair of hat tricks he scored in a span of three games (Anaheim and Colorado), Connor McDavid is magic on ice and it felt good to watch that happen for a few minutes.

Personally, I think my favourite goal is the one he scored on opening night against the Vancouver Canucks. Up until the tail end of the pre-season, we still didn’t know if or when Connor would be able to suit up for the team again based on the PCL injury he suffered in Calgary during the last game of the season, so when he came out and scored a beauty against Vancouver you could almost feel the roof get blown off of Rogers Place. The way he cut through the defenders like they were standing still and finish off the play in a way that only he can was remarkable to watch and you could tell by his celebration that he must have been feeling it too. Then again, we also didn’t know how serious his injury truly was, we wouldn’t learn those details until much later when Whatever It Takes came out, but that didn’t mean that Oilers fans weren’t jacked up to see their captain back as a destroyer of worlds.

So what’s your favourite McDavid goal from the season? Did watching the video make you feel better or worse? All I know for sure is that this compilation gave me the idea of doing a goal-by-goal breakdown for all 34 of McDavid’s markers (Gord knows I’ve got time) and that even though we’re unable to watch him play right now, he’s still finding ways to make us happy if only via the highlights.
