It was reported yesterday that a contract extension for Haas was expected, and there are lots to like about this deal. The price point under $1-million is perfect for an Oilers club who will see cap issues sooner rather than later.
In 58 games this year, he scored five goals and as many assists. His underlying numbers were average. At 5v5, he posted a 48.43 CF%, 44.44 GF% and an xGF% of 49.82.
According to Hockeyviz.com, has provided defence at an eight percent better rate than league average, but provided offence six percent below league average.
I think the deal is about as perfect as you could get for a bottom-six, right-shot centre like Haas. He will help to provide some solid depth for the Oilers.
