With their fifth selection at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, the Edmonton Oilers have drafted right-handed centreman, Filip Engaras, with the 169th overall pick.
With their fifth choice at the annual fishing derby, the Edmonton Oilers have selected Filip Engaras from the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. Engaras, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, played his first season in North America in 2019-20, registering eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in the Hockey East league after spending the previous two years with Skelleftea of the SHL. Listed at 6’0″, 190 pounds, the right-handed centerman is said to have above-average skating to go along with a strong shot and passing abilities, but that’s about all I could really find about him. Engaras will return to the Wildcats for his sophomore season in 2020-21 and it will be interesting to see how he’s able to handle an increase in minutes and responsibilities.
In 25 games played with the University of New Hampshire, the 21-year-old Engaras registered eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.
WHO IS FILIP ENGARAS?
Now that we know Engaras is the fifth pick for the Oilers at this year’s draft, I made my way back into the Internet machine to scrape together what I could about the type of player he is to try so that we all have a better idea of what we have here:
“He is a clever two-way center who reads the game well. Has really great skating abilities and good work ethic. Has improved his release and is now a good shooter, combined with the smartness which he uses to find unexpected passes. I am excited to see his future development as he is that kind of guy that really works hard, on and off ice. He is certainly determined to have a good hockey career.”
