Connor McDavid has been named the NHL’s second star of the week after scoring nine points in four games.
The stretch helped push the Oilers to a 12-8 record on the season with three massive wins. McDavid notched four assists in two games against the Winnipeg Jets early in the week, before being held off the scoresheet Friday night against the Flames.
The next night, however, he blew up scoring three goals and two assists in the teams 7-1 throttling of the Flames. McDavid also scored his 500th career point last week.
Those weekend wins over the Flames, according to hockeyviz.com, have propelled the Oilers to a 73.1 percent chance of making the playoffs, while dropping the Flames to a 50.3 percent chance of making the playoffs.
All the while, the two teams literally switched positions over the course of those two games in terms of their playoff chances.
