It’s NHL Draft just wrapped and the boys are back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you make sense of what’s happened with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today’s show, we looked at the Zack Kassian trade, Duncan Keith’s retirement, Reid Schaefer at #32, and a whole lot more.
To kick off the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio, we got started with a look at the Zack Kassian trade that happened on night one of the NHL Draft and whether or not it was a good move to make. Do we care about the draft picks that two and three years down the road? From there, we looked at Duncan Keith retiring after one year with the Oilers, freeing up $5.5 million in cap space that will be crucial to improving this team moving forward. With Kass and Keith both gone, the Oilers now find themselves with $20+ million in cap space and we looked at how Ken Holland should prioritize this windfall. Should he start with a goalie? Should they look for upgrades on defence? From there, we looked at Reid Schaefer who was selected by the Oilers at 32nd overall and whether it was a solid pick for them to wrap up the first round. Lastly, we closed out this week’s podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and our Hot and Cold performers to wrap up what was a very busy week in the NHL.
