The Seattle Kraken has officially selected Adam Larsson from the Edmonton Oilers in the expansion draft and will be signing him to a four-year contract with an AAV of $4-million.
The contract, as first reported by PuckPedia, looks like this:
Year 1: $2.5-million salary
Year 2: $3.5-million
Year 3: $5.5-million salary
Year 4: $4.5-million salary
Year 2: $3.5-million
Year 3: $5.5-million salary
Year 4: $4.5-million salary
Years one and two of the deal come with a full no-movement clause, while years two and three come with a modified 10-team no-trade list.
It’s hard to imagine that the Oilers couldn’t of come up with a similar deal for Larsson, but the chance to get a fresh start in Seattle appeared too tempting for him to pass up.
According to The Athletic’s Daniel Nugent-Bowman, the Oilers offered Larsson a similar deal and had another over a five-year term at a lower AAV. The Oilers, according to DNB, also were comfortable signing Larsson before the expansion draft and making a side deal with Seattle to keep their veteran defencemen.
DNB also reported the Oilers reportedly gave Larrson’s camp permission to speak with other teams last Saturday.
Edmonton now needs to add 2RD to their checklist of offseason tasks and it will be interesting to see who they target to fill that role.
