In the deals, the Oilers sent back defenceman William Lagesson and a conditional second-round pick to Montreal, while Philadelphia got back a fourth-round draft pick.
Both the Habs and Flyers retained salary on the deal with the Oilers adding only $612,500 to their cap hit, PuckPedia reported.
For the Oilers, it means they carry $2.6-million in cap space heading into Monday night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. This, mind you, comes with Josh Archibald ($1.5-m) suspended.
Archibald’s suspension comes from his vaccination status. Ahead of this season, the league implemented a rule that allowed teams to suspend players who were unvaccinated and unable to travel with the teams. There’s only two unvaccinated players in the league — Archibald and Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi.
Edmonton’s still tapped into the LTIR pool as well, according to PuckPedia. They still hold $5.748-million there.
All in all, it was some tidy work for the Oilers not only in terms of adding some pieces that will help, but also in staying under the salary cap.
