This is a weekly feature in which I’ll look at the performances and narratives of the teams in the Pacific Division.
The Kings have won eight games in a row and the Golden Knights have won four in a row of their own. The Canucks lost Bo Horvat to injury while the Ducks are set to welcome back Ryan Getzlaf. And, of course, the Oilers did their thing.

1st: Los Angeles Kings

20-8-3 (43 points) / +29 goal differential
The Kings beat the Wild and edged out the Senators and Hurricanes in overtime wins last week, extending their winning streak to eight games. They haven’t lost a game since getting dropped by the Coyotes back on Nov. 24, and, in that stretch, the Kings have allowed more than two goals in a game just once.
The key to Los Angeles’ resurgent season has been, well, resurgent play from a couple key players. Jonathan Quick owns an absurd .930 save percentage (is that elite???!!!) and Anze Kopitar leads the team with 38 points in 31 games.

2nd: Vegas Golden Knights

19-9-1 (39 points) / +12 goal differential
Just as you thought they were falling back down to earth, the Golden Knights are surging yet again. Last week, they beat Anaheim at home and then went on the road and beat Nashville and Dallas. They’re currently riding a four-game winning streak and none of it makes much sense. But here we are!
The Golden Knights are actually playing well enough to validate these wins, as they were only outshot in one of their four wins on the current streak. Also, Vegas welcomes Marc-Andre Fleury back from a concussion last week, which should make things even better.

3rd: San Jose Sharks

16-10-3 (35 points) / +10 goal differential
The Sharks had a solid week last week, going 2-0-1 with a paid of big wins over Carolina and Ottawa and an overtime loss to Minnesota. They were down 3-0 against the Wild and came back to earn themselves a loser point, which is always nice.
The big thing for San Jose last week was actually scoring goals. They had five against Carolina and five against Ottawa, which is well above their season average. The team has had a hell of a time scoring goals, but that 13 in the last three games is a positive sign for San Jose.

4th: Calgary Flames

16-12-1 (34 points) / -6 goal differential
The Flames went 2-0-1 last week, dropping a frustrating game in the shootout to Toronto, then earning an overtime win over Montreal, and a commanding 4-2 win over Vancouver. In the overtime win, Sean Monahan became the fastest player ever to score nine overtime goals.
The team also did a much, much better job at keeping the puck out of the net after a couple of ugly games against Edmonton and Philadelphia, allowing only two goals in each of the three games.

5th: Vancouver Canucks

14-12-4 (32 points) / -4 goal differential
The Canucks had a rough week last week. They beat Carolina 3-0, but then saw their three-game losing streak get snapped at the hands of the Flyers, who can’t beat anybody other than Western Canadian teams. After that, they got beaten handily by Calgary 4-2.
Bo Horvat was placed on the injured reserve with a fractured ankle and it’s expected he’ll need six weeks to recover. It’s going to be hard for Vancouver, who already struggles to score, to navigate that injury.

6th: Anaheim Ducks

12-11-7 (31 points) / -9 goal differential
The Ducks had a solid week last week, going 1-0-2. I mean, if you’re going to lose, you might as well do so after regulation, right? Their week consisted of two losses but they got points as if they went 2-1.
Good news for the Ducks, Ryan Kesler and Ryan Getzlaf are set to return in the next couple weeks. The team has done a good job staying above water to this point and is within striking distance for their star players to help them make a run.

7th: Edmonton Oilers

12-16-2 (26 points) / -13 goal differential
The Oilers had themselves another rollercoaster week last week. After a dominant 7-5 win in Calgary, they had a few days off and followed it up with a loss to the hapless Flyers. After that, they went into Montreal and rolled the Habs 6-2, then lost 1-0 to Toronto with Curtis McElhinney in net.
The Flyers game aside because it was a hideously bad effort, the Oilers played very well in their back-to-back Eastern games but unfortunately only came out with one win. They’ve got a massive climb ahead of them if they’re going to get back into the race. They’re eight points behind Calgary and only seven ahead of Arizona.

8th: Arizona Coyotes

7-21-5 (19 points) / -39 goal differential
The Coyotes had a very Coyotes week last week. They dropped both games they played, one of which they got hammered 6-1 by Boston and the other they played well but came out short 1-0 against Columbus.
