The Edmonton Oilers have announced a massive 61-player training camp roster ahead of camp opening Wednesday.
The Oilers will be without Duncan Keith and Alex Stalock to kick off the season. The former is still in quarantine after receiving his second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while Stalock’s career is in jeopardy after developing a heart condition that will keep him out all year.
A number of players are also joining the club on camp invites and pro tryouts. Goaltender Ethan Kruger, defencemen Simon Kubicek and Yanni Kaldis, as well as forwards Dino Kambietz, Devin Brosseau (PTO), Mateo Gennaro (PTO) and Drew Englot will join the club. Gennaro is the cousin of former Edmonton Oilers forward Fernando Pisani.
Oilers training camp kicked off Wednesday with medicals and fitness testing, while day-one of on-ice work begins Thursday. Edmonton plays their first pre-season game Sunday night against the Calgary Flames.
