According to the Oilers’ official Twitter account, the team will play their home opener on Thursday, October 18th against the Boston Bruins after starting things up in Sweden 12 days earlier. That means that you’ve got 120 days to wait until you get to watch Connor McDavid do McDavid things on home ice again.
Have you been waiting patiently for the Oilers to announce when they would be back home after kicking off their season (October 6th) against the Devils in Sweden? Good news! The Edmonton Oilers announced this morning that their home opener for the 2018-19 season will be played against the Boston Bruins on Thursday, October 18th at Rogers Place. Only fourth months to wait! I can handle that… maybe. In the grand scheme of things, four months isn’t a long time, but I know I’ll be having McWithdrawals by then so these 120 days could end up feeling like an eternity depending on how this offseason goes.
After kicking off their last two seasons against the Calgary Flames, Oilers fans will get a change of pace this time around as Peter Chiarelli’s former squad will be in town to help the boys get their home schedule started. Considering they start the season in Sweden, it’s not exactly surprising that it will take a minute before they get back home for the home opener. What I’m interested in finding out is how many games the Oilers will play on the road before finally landing back home. With nearly two weeks between the season opener in Sweden and the home opener at Rogers Place, I assume they’re going to hit a couple of east coast teams on their way home but that’s just me guessing. How many? We’ll have to be patient.
According to what I can find on Twitter, the NHL will release complete schedules for the 2018-19 season tomorrow afternoon around 3:00 pm MST. As always, I’ll be back with a full update when the news comes out.

***UPDATE***

According to Boston radio man, Ty Anderson, the Oilers will be playing IN Boston on October 11th. Two games against the BROOOOOOOOONZ in the span of a week.
