The Edmonton Oilers have loaned Theodor Lennstrom to Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League for the 2020-21 season.
Lennstrom, 25, was signed to an entry-level contract by the Oilers on April 29th. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has played 151 SHL games over the last seven years scoring 59 points along the way.
Given the uncertainty of the American Hockey League and their potential for a 2020-21 season, Lennstrom, and other potential AHL players, are being loaned to teams in Europe where return-to-play’s are in the forefront.
The Oilers recently loaned another defenceman in Dimitri Samorukov to the KHL for the upcoming season. Hopefully, both players are able to get a chance to play lots of hockey.
Lennstrom and Samorukov were likely both candidates to play in the AHL this season, so who knows if they’d come back if the AHL gets their season underway.
