On Friday afternoon, the Edmonton Oilers announced a couple of roster moves that sees the team loaning both Stuart Skinner and Colton Sceviour to the Bakersfield Condors.
If you were hoping that the Oilers would be switching up their goaltending situation by adding our rising star from Bako into the mixed then you are likely disappointed today as news just broke that Stuart Skinner will be heading back to the Condors.  Rather than minding the net for the big club, Skinner will instead return to Bakersfield where he’s had plenty of success with the farm club and will look to build upon the fine run he’s put together in 2021-22 while waiting for his next chance to play for his hometown Oilers. Despite having the best numbers of any goalie on the roster, Skinner will step aside in favour of Mike Smith who continues to struggle to get up to speed after missing the bulk of the season with an array of injuries and ailments.
In 18 AHL games played, Skinner has posted an 11-2-4 record with a .919 save%, a 2.24 GAA, and three shutouts.
With the Oilers, Skinner has posted a 6-6-0 record to go along with a .913 save%, 2.62 GAA, and one shutout.
The other half of this transaction sees Colton Sceviour returning to the Condors as a means of clearing roster space for either Josh Archibald or Tyson Barrie who are both expected/probable to play tomorrow night against Tampa Bay. If the plan is indeed to clear space for Josh Archibald, having Sceviour in the lineup becomes redundant as both guys fill a similar role for the team, and with limited space available, it seems as though they’re more interested in seeing what Archibald can bring. Originally brought in on a professional tryout, Sceviour earned a contract with the Oilers after a strong showing in the pre-season but has yet to truly cement himself as an everyday player, making today’s news anything but surprising.
In four games played with Bakersfield, Sceviour has registered two assists and a -2 rating to go along with a two-game suspension for barreling over Canucks prospect Jack Rathbone.
In 35 games played with the Oilers, Sceviour has averaged 9:28 in TOI to go along with two goals, three assists, and a 49.8 CF%.
