The COVID hits just keep coming for the Edmonton Oilers as the team announced this morning that Kyle Turris is the latest to be added to the list of players to be sidelined after a couple of days of no positive results. While we don’t yet know what the Turris positive test means for the rest of his teammates, there is a certain sense of “here we go again” any time one of our guys becomes unavailable. Good times, amirite?
Turris marks the second member of the Oilers to enter COVID protocol this week, joining Dylan Holloway on the shelf after the blue-chip prospect tested positive on Monday. While there has been no update on how Turris is doing, I think it’s fair to say that we all hope he will be okay and ready to get back to practice as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this Turris COVID news does raise questions about whether or not more of his teammates will be joining him on the sidelines ahead of Saturday’s game against the Senators as COVID continues to rip through NHL rosters right now. We shall see, I suppose.
For the Oilers, the list of guys that haven’t been added to COVID protocol yet continues to shrink. As of this writing, the remaining players unaffected so far this season are Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Colton Sceviour, Kris Russell, Mike Smith, Mikko Koskinen, and AHL call-ups in Markus Niemalainen, Philip Broberg, Dmitry Samorukov, and Stuart Skinner.
Currently, the Oilers’ next game is set to happen on Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators after the game was pushed back a week due to COVID delays. Will it actually happen? That’s the million dollar question, I suppose. The Oilers have already had five games postponed this month and while no further announcements have been made just yet, you have to wonder how many more are coming.
