Oilers Prospect Report: Engaras ends 2021 on a high note in New Hampshire

It’s bleak and dull in Edmonton right now, not only off the ice during this cold snap but on the ice too.
On the plus side, their prospect pool is still looking promising. There’s a couple of guys in Bakersfield that could be called up soon to help the big boys get out of their slump. One of them might even be a goaltender Oilers’ fans have become more familiar with recently.
Carter Savoie and Xavier Bourgault haven’t hit the ice since returning from the Christmas break. Bourgault, of course, was hurt during the World Juniors, but there’s been no official report on Savoie as of yet.
For now, let’s discuss the players that have been on the ice.

Condors’ drop two to start the year

Bakersfield ended 2021 positively with two wins, however, the start of 2022 hasn’t been as nice for them. With back-to-back losses against Henderson Silver Knights and Ontario Reign, the Condors now sit 7th in the Pacific Division with an 8-8-3 record.
Philip Broberg got the scoring started against the Silver Knights with his second of the season. He’s now up to 12 points on the season, making him the highest-scoring defenceman on the team. Cooper Marody chipped in with an assist too as he continues his fine season. Stuart Skinner made his second start since returning from Edmonton. He turned aside 26 of 29 shots.
The next night versus Ontario, Skinner started again, adding ten more saves to his tally from the night before but it wasn’t enough. Marody scored his team-leading 9th goal of the season. Will that be enough to earn a call up to the Oilers? We’ll see. On another note, Dmitri Samourkov grabbed an assist on Tim Schaller’s opening goal.

Filip Engaras shines in New Hampshire

Carter Savoie has been the Oilers prospect that’s starred in the NCAA so far this season. However, Filip Engaras took the spotlight away from him temporarily. Engaras put on a clinic against Mercyhurst on New Year’s Eve with three assists – almost matching his season total. The Oilers 2020 6th rounder now has four goals and 11 points in 17 games this season matching his season-high from last year.
