According to their official Twitter, the Oilers have made four more cuts. They’re sending Patrick Russell and Nick Ellis to the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL, while Ty Rattie and Dillon Simpson have been placed on waivers with the purpose of assigning them to the AHL.
With the sheer volume of similar low-level to middling prospects being placed on waivers at this stage — Hunter Shinkaruk (CGY), Frank Corrado (PIT), Rocco Grimaldi (COL) in the past couple days to name a few — it’s virtually certain Simpson and Rattie will slide through unclaimed.
Keegan Lowe, Mitch Callahan, and Edward Pasquale all cleared waivers earlier this week. Some other players like to be cut from the roster in the coming days like Ryan Stanton and Brad Malone will also have to be placed on waivers.
Like all the cuts we’ve seen so far this fall, none of these are surprising. The Oilers are still a couple games away from making major roster decisions with players like Jesse Puljujarvi, Kailer Yamamoto, Chris Kelly, and Yohann Auvitu.
The Oilers have two more pre-season games — Wednesday and Saturday — before opening the season Oct. 4 against the Flames.
