Edmonton Oilers sign trio to NHL contracts

The Edmonton Oilers have signed a trio of players to contracts that will begin in 2022-23.

Forward James Hamblin and defenceman Vincent Desharnais both inked two-year deals, while defenceman Dmitri Samorukov inked a one-year.

Samorukov, 22, has been re-signed after coming off his entry-level deal. Initially inked in 2017, the deal was pushed twice before kicking off in 2019-20.

The rearguard has appeared in 88 games over parts of the last three seasons scoring four goalsand 23 points. Samorukov’s NHL debut came earlier this season on the road in a game against the St. Louis Blues. His wife was in attendance, but was benched after playing only 2:28 and making two mistakes that led to goals against.

This year he’s appeared in 36 games with the Condors scoring two goals and 11 points — both career highs. The Oilers selected him in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft.

Hamblin, also 22, is in his second year with the Condors and has been a productive player for them. In 77 games, he’s scored 19 goals and 25 points. A native of Edmonton, Alta., the 5’9, 176lb forward has appeared in 39 games this year scoring 12 goals and 20 points, both career highs.

In Desharnais , the Oilers have inked a big defenceman who has taken on a significant role with the Condors this season. The 6’6, 215 lb. 25-year old has played parts of the last three seasons with the Condors appearing in 88 games. In them, he’s scored five goals and 28 points.

Much like the prior two, Desharnais has hit career highs in goals, with five, and points, with 18. He was drafted by the Oilers in the seventh round in 2016.
