Friday Fights: Fight of the Year Among Duds

6 years agoHello out there, I’m on the air, it’s Hockey Fights today. This is a weekly feature where we will take a look back at the best tilts of the week that was, a fond look back at the fights that were, and a strong finger wag at the worst fight of the week.
This week in Friday Fights, we watch as sadly, the quantity and quality of fights continue to plummet. Seven total fights for the entire week. Just a sickeningly low number for all of the fans of fighting in hockey. Three fights with a rating under 4.0 and two with ratings under 2.0. Not a great week for the fans of the fisticuffs and it’s disheartening to watch.
This week we have as many finger wags to give as we do top fights, but one of the best scraps we have is definitely a contender for fight of the year.
Onto the top tilts.
No. 3:
Matt Hunwick vs Miles Wood
Failed to load video.
This one would have found it’s way up higher in the charts if not for the boys getting spun off balance at the end and it then turned into a wrestling match.
No. 2:
Dennis Seidenberg vs Zack Smith
Failed to load video.
Just two guys who got tired of each other’s bs at the end of a play. Who amongst us hasn’t tossed a few with a buddy like this?
No. 1:
Garnet Hathaway vs Brenden Dillon
Failed to load video.
This is definitely a top contender for fight of the year.

Finger Wag of the Week:
This is where we normally feature the one fight that probably deserved two minutes for occurring, rather than a major. Or a player that needs to be put on blast
Darren Helm vs Zach Hyman
Failed to load video.
This was a bad week overall for NHL fights. Frankly, it was so bad that I had to hand out multiple finger wags mentions just to make this thing work. It was basically a clinic in how to put on a hug-fest in the middle of a hockey game. Quick fights, and wastes of time. The NHL as it is in 2018.
