Risky Business: I’d do horrible things for an Oilers win

Risky Business is brought to you by NHL odds site Betway!
Coming into today’s game, the Washington Capitals are sporting a record of 8-1-1 through their last 10 games, while the Oilers have a miserable 3-7-0 and sit in third-last place in the entire NHL. Needless to say, these two teams have been moving in opposite directions. Fun and games for Caps fans, horror and dread for everyone around here. Life’s not fair, and being an Oilers fan in November of 2023 is another tough lesson in what that means. Thinking your team is going to be a Cup contender and then having them turn out to be a hot mess is a kind of pain that is as new as it is frustrating. During the Decade of Darkness, the joke was always that we knew we were bad but still determined to have fun with it anyway. Having the boys go 5-12-1 in a season when we thought making the playoffs was almost a formality is the hockey equivalent of a punch to the balls, and when it comes to betting on this team, every day is a new adventure.
If you’re following along at home, the odds I’m using for my game day betting articles all season come from Betway. Here’s what I’m putting down against the Washington Capitals.

Player Prop:

Connor McDavid to score at +110. My $5 bet would return $10.50.

Easy Money:

Over 6.5 total goals at -115. My $5 bet would return $9.34.

Risky Business:

Edmonton Oilers puck line at +185.  My $5 bet would return $14.25.

Can’t Miss Parlay:

Oilers to win in regulation and over 5.5 total goals at +235. My $5 bet would return $9.16.

Last Game

How bad was that hockey game against Carolina? I don’t know the last time I’ve felt so numb and distraught as I was in the first period when the Oilers were down by three goals at the 12 minute mark. It’s tough sledding these days, my friends. Tough sledding indeed.
Here’s what I bet against the Hurricanes:
  • Connor McDavid anytime goal scorer at +110.
  • Total goals over 6.5 at -150. ✅
  • Connor McDavid to score 2+ goals at +600.
  • Over 6.5 total goals and Leon Draisaitl to score 1+ point at -120. ✅
And there you have it, friends. Now you know what I’m betting on and how I did last game. As always, I put one unit down on each bet. Hit me up in the comments section to let me know what you’re looking at against the Caps.
It’s also worth noting that betting lines move throughout the day, so that may be the reason why what’s listed above doesn’t match what’s on Betway when you put together your own bets.
