After the Oilers’ 6-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday night, head coach Jay Woodcroft had updated on a trio of injured players.
First and foremost, Dylan Holloway won’t be in the Oilers’ lineup Saturday and Monday. No word on his injury, but he was blown up on a big hit against the Buffalo Sabres early in the third. Holloway had a tremendous preseason, but struggled early in his first few games. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Oilers ease him slowly back into the lineup.
Tyler Benson, who was placed on the LTIR with a lower-body injury, is skating on his own but a few weeks away. That lines up with when he could come off the injured reserve. His injury was unfortunate because I thought he was a bright spot out of Oilers camp and a strong candidate for a regular spot on the 4th line. He’s reworked his game and looked better this year.
Lastly, Philip Broberg is dealing with an upper-body injury and is out for the next week. According to Bob Stauffer, he’s going to be green-lit for contact this week. He’s yet to play in any regular season games in the NHL, or AHL this season. This has been a tough go for Broberg, who put on some size in the offseason, but didn’t yet seem to know how to play with it.
